Utopia · public contributions
Ideas that begin with doing.
A small, source-bound reading of contributions. It does not summarise conference decisions or speak for a whole group.
Possible next steps
Connect what already exists
“I would start by connecting and sharing the possibilities we already have.”
Editorial translation
Make sharing ordinary
“Move from owning to sharing: make cooperatives, sharing, commons, open source, and shared spaces and resources an everyday alternative.”
Editorial translation
Study what holds change back
“Before discussing a perfect utopia, we need to discuss why destructive decisions are often made against better knowledge.”
Editorial translation
Coordinate locally
“Unite a bioregion and build it as an autonomous zone within the rules by finding smart ways through the system.”

Three short readings
1. Make what exists visible first
One contribution proposes an open space where skills, rooms, resources and needs become visible. Its concrete direction is to try small things together rather than wait for a perfect utopia.
“I would start by connecting and sharing the possibilities we already have.”

2. Sharing needs forms
Two proposals give sharing different forms: commons and shared resources on one side; regional digital infrastructure and self-formed interest groups on the other. Both are proposals, never completed outcomes.
“Move from owning to sharing: make cooperatives, sharing, commons, open source, and shared spaces and resources an everyday alternative.”
Editorial translation
“Unite a bioregion and build it as an autonomous zone within the rules by finding smart ways through the system.”

3. Put resistance on the table too
A workshop proposed for the 2028 Utopia conference shifts the question: alongside the aim of a utopia, examine why destructive decisions are made. It is an invitation to investigate, not an explanation for every case.
“Before discussing a perfect utopia, we need to discuss why destructive decisions are often made against better knowledge.”
